Why fundamentals and repetition build more judgment than chasing every new tool.
The post
Sustainable engineering growth isn't learning every new tool.
It's depth where it compounds: how commerce systems work, how data flows, how failures show up in prod, how business rules become code.
Tool-hopping feels productive. It rarely builds judgment. Judgment saves you when docs are wrong, the integration acts odd, and the business needs an answer by Thursday.
Engineers who grow steadily invest in fundamentals and real repetition—not resume-driven tutorials. They get better at the right question, not just the right syntax.
In ecommerce, leverage is understanding the system end to end: catalog, storefront, checkout, ops. That's a moat that doesn't expire when the framework changes.
Grow slow where it matters. Grow fast only when the foundation is solid.
