Semantic commerce is explicit relationships in the catalog, not a new label on an old data-ownership problem.
The post
Semantic commerce isn't a buzzword on a slide.
It's systems that understand relationships: product to variant, variant to inventory, product to collection, offer to market, policy to category.
When those links are clean, search, recommendations, feeds, and agents work better. When they're implicit—buried in theme logic, scattered in apps, inconsistent across channels—every new surface is expensive to support.
You feel it when "the same product" behaves differently in the storefront, email tool, and marketplace feed. That's usually not a fancy AI problem. It's a data model and ownership problem with a new label.
Smarter commerce starts by making meaning explicit in the catalog: what things are, how they connect, who maintains each link.
Intelligence follows structure—not the other way around.
